About:

Lokivore was set up to meet the change in media needs brought about by the affordability of digital technology, an increase in computer literacy and the rise of internet dependence in our daily lives.

Where once a multimedia presence was the sole province of large corporations, widespread internet access has not only made this possible for all, but it is now almost mandatory for small to medium sized businesses and community groups.

The difficulty this creates for the average buyer of advertising material or space is that they have to manage and employ the services of many different design and production providers. Most website designers and print-shops, for example, have in-house art departments that will create graphics for their specific media, and the good ones will provide their artwork in a multipurpose vector format, but very few will consider the different colour requirements demanded by print and internet mediums. This leaves the client to manage the difference between the colour gamuts of three (RGB) and four (CMYK) media processes. In simple terms, this means a particular colour shade that represents the company on the internet may not be reproducible on a business card, creating inconsistent media identities. The cure to this problem is to redesign the original artwork using a limited colour range that both projected and reflected colour can reproduce. But of course, the best solution is to avoid these issues in the first place and that is one purpose Lokivore has been set up to do.

A second issue Lokivore's combined media structure solves is the separation of design and content. Page design and artwork are only two parts of any media presence, and providers of these services usually require clients to supply all content, such as text, photographs and/or video, themselves. This leaves the client to acquire the additional services of editors, photographers and, with the rise of video on the internet, video producers. By offering these services as part of design projects Lokivore can streamline the creation of additional content, and by tailoring production standards to specific client-media needs we can reduce the cost of these services when compared to specialist production studios. For example, a bit of silver spray paint, and a few lighting tricks, can turn wood to metal when viewed through a camera. And there are many other lies a camera can tell, which can be utilised as cost saving shortcuts to reduce production expenses. What savings such techniques can bring depends on the goal of a project and the resources a client has at their disposal. If you are interested in finding out more about these savings, please call us with a rough outline of your creative ideas and a list of resources you have available, and we'll try and match the two to bring about the cheapest possible production solution.

The third deficiency Lokivore seeks to fill is the gap between consumer level technology and the requirements of third party providers, such as web hosts, commercial printers and publications selling advertising space (both print and web based).

Most digital cameras and computers come bundled with enough software to complete 90% of commercial media requirements. For those with the time and interest to create their own media projects, Lokivore can provide the missing ten percent, without do-it-yourself media creators having to outlay the thousands of dollars for professional software suites that output third party compliant media files. By offering the various components of multimedia publishing as individual services, do-it-yourself 'ers can choose only those services they don't have the time, money or interest, in completing themselves. You may, for instance, be a web page wizard, but the world of vector graphics and benzier curves leaves you dumbfounded. Then Lokivore can create your artwork as a scaleable graphic for reuse on business cards, posters, etc. Or, you may want to advertise your car in a magazine, and want to create your own advert so it stands out against the in-house template designs, but the publisher won't accept your PDF file because is isn't 'press ready'. In that case, you can supply Lokivore with your finished design and we'll add the extra technical settings required by the publisher. Or, your may already have a complete multimedia presence in place but your competitors have started to add video to their websites, and while your web designer says they can add video to your site, they don't produce video and you don't have the first idea about what that entails. If you are in such a situation you can call Lokivore and we'll discuss the fundamental costs and requirements, and if suitable, produce a video that your web designer can add to your existing site.

In a nutshell, Lokivore is about solving the difficulties of multimedia implementation as quickly and efficiently as possible. So if you come across a media problem call us and the we'll do our best to come up with the most cost effective solution. You'd be surprised at how easily some difficulties can be overcome, such as the knowledge that the Officeworks Print department is now† accepting MSWord files for personalised stationary‡. Or another popular solution that is appreciated by clients, is our recommendation that they purchase additional equipment when it is cost effective to do so. Such a replacing a half day professional photo shoot with a $600 mid-priced camera if they already have an interest in photography.

If you have the time, Lokivore has the knowledge to help you save yourself unnecessary media expenses. Just give as a call, we don't charge for telephone advice.
